Highland High School participated in the annual Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills on October 16th. Schools, businesses, and organizations that live in states and countries that frequently have earthquake activity take part in this event to educate people about protection during an earthquake.
Highland students and staff practice earthquake safety by ducking under desks and tables and covering their necks. They then head to pre-determined locations on the upper field when the announcer says all is clear. Many teachers have interestingly decorated signs so their students know can follow the teacher.
Palmdale is less than 25 miles from the San Andreas Fault lines. It is necessary for people in Palmdale to know the necessities for being safe during an earthquake.
