This year’s homecoming pep rally held on October 15 began as usual. This year’s hosts, brothers, Daniel and Desidario Ascencio, did a great job hyping the student body up. There introduction was later followed up by a performance by the Highland cheer team, who put on a great show. After their performance, the varsity football team showed up for roll call and made the crowd go wild.
With the homecoming game with Quartz Hill the following day the pressure was on for the bulldogs and they wanted everyone to know that they were ready to take home the win (we
won!). Their appearance was later followed up by performances by color guard, drum line, and by Highland’s many dance teams. However the performance that got major buzz was the teachers vs. students dance battle.
Teachers and staff members danced hilariously to Silentó’s summer hit, “Watch Me Whip/ Nae Nae” while students from ASB danced out of sync to iHeart Memphis’s hit “Hit the Quan”. Senior Jennifer Cruz said ” though I am a senior and a student it is no doubt that the staff won that dance battle. The students looked as if they didn’t practice and were totally out of sync”. No matter how people looked at the dance battle, it was the most entertaining event of the pep rally
The first pep rally of the school year came out with a bang, filled with cheery people and great performances by all teams. We all just have to wait and see how ASB plans to top this rally in the future.
