Wednesday November 4th marked the end of the Highland Cross Country team’s season. Overall, the boy’s varsity team placed second in league and girl’s varsity placed third. Both varsity teams advanced to CIF Prelims in Riverside on November 14th.
“The goal is to advance to finals” said Coach Smith. “I’m happy with the hard work the team has been put into the season” says Smith about the dedication of the team. Although only varsity won the title of Golden League Champions and earned patches for their letterman jackets, the JV team had an outstanding race.
Senior, Matt Jones, came in first for Highland, with a phenomenal time of 16:35 (a time that some of the boys in the varsity race could not beat). On the girls team, senior, Kiah Hixon, performed well, coming in 7th place in the JV girls race. On the varsity team, leader, Camden Smith, finished with a time of 15:13 giving him a 1st place medal in the varsity men’s race. Girls team leader and senior, Aliyia Harris placed 9th in the varsity girls race with a time of 20:05, with Solid and Yearwood coming in right behind Harris landing them a top fifteen spot.
Six out of seven varsity boys on the HHS team ranked in the top fifteen, earning them a patch. Currently the boy’s varsity team hold the title as the second best team in Highland’s entire cross country record! We wish them all the best at CIF! GO BULLDOGS!
