On Wednesday May 4th 2016 the Highland swim took the drive to the Eastside pool in Lancaster CA, to compete in Golden League Finals. The Bulldogs ,with a 5-2 league record (lost to Quartz Hill and Pete Knight), were ready to put up a fight to win Golden league.
During the last week of the season head coach,Nick Klein, did not ease off the hard workouts. He pushed his team harder than they had been pushed all season; he was not going to lose again. As the meet began the team was full of adrenaline and was ready to fight for every point they could get. Mario Macias the best boy swimmer on the Bulldog swim team took first place in the 200 yard Individual Medley, also getting an automatic time for CIF. Mario was not the only one to take home a first place though, HHS senior, Kiah Hixon, also got first place in the 500 yard freestyle.
The Bulldogs had several swimmers place within the top five including Dante Jamison. Jamison took second place in his individual events the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 freestyle. After the hard fight the Bulldogs put up, the team took second in Golden League, coming in right behind Quartz Hill. Even though the swim season is now over for most, some of the team still have practice. At least 8 of the Bulldog swimmers are going to CIF. These swimmers are Mario Macias, Alejandro Macias, Daniel Hernandez, Dante Jamison, Kiah Hixon, Katelyn Tweedy, Hannah Stubbs, and Ashley Williamson. They will be competing at CIF this Wednesday May 11, 2016 in Riverside, CA. We wish our fellow Bulldogs luck and hope them the best.
