The track and field season has officially begun. One of the team’s first wins was on Wednesday, March 29th, 2017. The Golden League meet took place at Lancaster High School. Highland ran against Lancaster High School and Little Rock High school. Highland emerged as the first place winner of the meet. Track manager, Jennifer Meza comments about the events she witnessed at the Golden League meet,” Highland won and I am proud of all the runners.” According to Meza, before the Golden League took place, the team went to an invitational meet the week before. She states that the invitational was their first win. This years captains are Brittney Butts for the sprinters. For the boys distance runners, the captain is Hershel Smith. Both captains are seniors.

A distance runner that has made quite the impression at the recent track meets is Leo Olivera. Olivera is a junior and has led Highland to take its first place wins. As the season moves on, coaches hope everyone breaks their personal records. Highland couldn’t be anymore proud of the team.
